Internet Security Workshop at Burmese Womens’ Rights Program

In early 2016, I facilitated an internet literacy workshop in Lashio, the capital of Shan state in Myanmar. We taught a school of future rights activists how to keep their data safe online. Internet had become widely available just 3 years earlier and many village women were victims of blackmail scandals that involved hackers photoshopping profile picture headshots onto naked bodies, then sending these pictures to the families of innocent women.  We focused on privacy settings for their most commonly used tool: Facebook.
